Courage Essential Oil Blend
Courage is a beautiful blend of black spruce, camphor, blue tansy, frankincense, & geranium essential oils in a coconut oil base, made by Revive Essential Oils. This blend is the equivalent to Young Living’s ValorⓇ–kind of. Let me explain.
Once upon a time, Young Living created the ValorⓇ blend but struggled to keep it in stock. They just couldn’t get the Rosewood essential oil reliably and sustainably sourced to meet the demand! So, they reformulated the blend to create something very similar but with some different essential oils that were easier to source. For many years, the updated ValorⓇ blend was sold without Rosewood, and with camphor and geranium to replace it. Young Living now has a sustainable source for Rosewood oil and has reverted back to their original formula, so if you go to purchase their ValorⓇ blend now, you’ll get a slightly different blend than if you purchase Revive’s Courage blend.
Revive’s Courage blend is what I use in the Raindrop Technique session with clients. I love this formulation and, even when I was purchasing from Young Living, never experienced the original ValorⓇ blend. So, I will be focusing on the essential oils used in the Courage blend for this blog.
The Nerdy Stuff
I’m not going to go into depth on each essential oil contained in the blend, but I do want to share with you the primary constituents of Courage, based on the essential oils in the blend.
alpha-Pinene
A monoterpene with a strong woody, piney scent, it is antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, antioxidative, antitumor, as well as neuro- and gastroprotective. (https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0031942221002065)
Bornyl acetate
This constituent has anti-microbial, anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, and anti-abortion effects along with a scent similar to pine needles and is used in Chinese medicine. (https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0944711323001423)
1,8-cineole
Eucalyptol has antimicrobial and antiviral properties, and is anti-inflammatory, an antioxidant, and an analgesic. It has also been used to treat respiratory disorders, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, asthma, and more. (https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0753332223012659)
Limonene
Extensively studied, limonene has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anticancer, antidiabetic, antiviral, and antinociceptive (inhibits pain detection) properties as well as gastroprotective effects. (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29427589/)
Camphor
This has a strong mothball-like odor and has topical applications as an anti-itch or anti-infective agent. It should not be ingested in any product containing more than 11% camphor due to rapid onset of toxic effects so stick to topical or aromatic applications only. (https://pubchem.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/compound/Camphor)
Chamazulene
This is what gives blue tansy its blue color. It has anti-inflammatory, antiallergic, and antioxidant properties. (https://www.sciencedirect.com/topics/medicine-and-dentistry/chamazulene)
Citronellol
This gives off a floral-citrus scent and can repel insects and may have antimicrobial properties as well. (https://cosmetics.specialchem.com/inci-ingredients/citronellol)
Linalool
A naturally occurring alcohol, linalool has a floral, spicy aroma and has anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, anticancer, anxiolytic (anti-anxiety), and antidepressant properties. (https://www.sciencedirect.com/topics/neuroscience/linalool#:~:text=Linalool%20is%20an%20acyclic%20monoterpene,treatment%20of%20certain%20neurological%20disorders.)
Geraniol
A sweet, floral rose-like fragrance, geraniol can repel insects, be used in antimicrobial or antifungal applications, and may have anticancer properties, too. (https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7397177/)
What Does the Blend Do?
The Courage essential oil blend (or ValorⓇ blend) is designed to help balance and align your physical and energetic body. It can support you in meditation or becoming more grounded as well as soothe tired muscles. I’ve heard this blend called “a chiropractor in a bottle” before because of its ability to help realign your body (no, it can’t fully substitute as a chiropractor, but it can help support their work in spinal alignment).
I would also like to note that this blend, whether you are using the Courage or the ValorⓇ blend, is very aptly named. The combination of these essential oils can boost your confidence, providing you with a little extra courage to face whatever it is you are dealing with in your life.
Using Courage
In the Raindrop Technique, this is the very first oil I apply to your skin in the session. I apply it to the soles of your feet and then place my palms against the soles of your feet and hold them for about five minutes. This gives Courage time to be absorbed and really helps you sink deeply into relaxation and allows for realignment of your physical and energetic bodies. It is also the last oil applied to your back in the Raindrop Technique. Essentially, we start and end in balance.
At home, you can use Courage topically or aromatically. Please DO NOT INGEST this essential oil blend, however, as it is not safe for internal use. I love to put a few drops into a roller bottle, top with coconut oil, and roll onto the soles of my feet, the back of my neck, or even as a perfume applied behind my ears or at the base of my neck. If you choose to diffuse it, you don’t need much in your diffuser, and only really need to diffuse it for about an hour at a time. It is typically safe to apply neat (undiluted) to your skin, unless you are particularly sensitive.
I hope that you enjoy this blend as much as I do!
